Infant/Toddler Program
Infant/Toddler Program
The Infant/Toddler Program at the Brookside Learning Center serves children with disabilities from birth to 2 years of age. The program uses a team approach with parents, teacher,
occupational therapist
,
physical therapist
, and
speech therapist
working together to help each child reach their fullest potential.
When a child enters the Infant/Toddler Program, they are assessed in all areas of development and an individual program is developed to meet specific needs. Areas of development include:
cognitive, motor, speech and language, social-emotional,
and
self-help skills.
The primary goals of the Infant/Toddler Program are to provide appropriate early intervention services to the child with disabilities and to increase the parent's ability to be the child's primary facilitator.
Weekly one-hour parent meetings are held as parent training is an essential component of the Infant/Toddler Program. These parent meetings provide an opportunity to share information, concerns, and to offer mutual support and assistance to each other. An additional one-hour weekly session focuses on individual problems and assets of the infant. Demonstration of specific handling techniques, positioning, teaching, and feeding methods are reviewed. Parents have the opportunity to observe, ask questions, and then try the technique themselves.
